Looking Out For Signs Of Fatigue

Fatigue

As an athlete, it’s important to be able to recognise when you’re experiencing fatigue so that you can  adjust your training accordingly and avoid overtraining. Here are some common signs of fatigue to look out for:

1. Decreased Performance: If you find yourself struggling to complete workouts that were previously  manageable, it may be a sign that you’re experiencing fatigue.

2. Slow Recovery: If you’re finding that it’s taking longer than usual to recover after workouts, it could  indicate that you’re not giving your body enough time to rest.

3. Increased Heart Rate: A higher than normal resting heart rate may be a sign that you’re experiencing fatigue.

4. Elevated Cortisol Levels: Cortisol is a hormone that is released in response to stress. If your cortisol  levels are consistently high, it can indicate that your body is struggling to cope with the demands of your training.

5. Insomnia Or Poor Sleep Quality: If you’re struggling to fall asleep or stay asleep, it could be a sign  that you’re experiencing fatigue.

6. Decreased Appetite: Fatigue can sometimes lead to a decreased appetite, which can result in  inadequate nutrition and subsequent declines in performance.

7. Increased Irritability: If you find yourself becoming easily agitated or irritable, it may be a sign that  you’re experiencing fatigue and are in need of a break from training.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s important to take a step back and adjust your routine. This could mean reducing the intensity or frequency of your workouts, increasing the amount of rest you’re getting or speaking with a coach or healthcare provider about developing a more balanced training plan.

Remember that fatigue is a normal part of training but it’s important to listen to your body and make adjustments accordingly to avoid overtraining and injury. Contact us today at David Jones Personal Training to find out more about how look out for signs of fatigue.
